Washington, D.C.:
Monuments & Memorials

This class covers the founding and design of well-known monuments and attractions in Washington, DC.

Students will not just see the monuments, but explore questions such as why should we memorialize anything? Who decides what monuments and memorials are built and why would that matter? What do we think is missing?

Interrogating the meaning monuments and memorials gives students a deeper understanding of the capital city, the U.S. government, and the unique and sometimes contradictory culture of the United States.

This is a great class for students who have not been to Washington, DC before or for students who want to know more about the major attractions in the DC area.
